When Should You Renovate Your Home?

When Should You Renovate Your Home?

If you’re planning to renovate your home, it’s important to do so at the right time. Hiring an architect Chester to oversee the process can be highly beneficial as they have the expert knowledge and expertise to ensure that your renovation goes as smoothly as possible. Before you begin, here are some factors you should consider in choosing the best time of year to renovate your home in the UK.

1) Spring

If you’re in charge of renovating your home, you may want to reconsider when to begin your work. While many people think that spring is a good time for construction, however, it can be one of the worst depending on which month you start. If you start in March, there’s a higher chance that renovations will be postponed due to bad weather. You also will need to account for Easter Bank Holiday as kids will be on break meaning, many construction workers take holiday during those months as well. This can cause delays that could affect your entire renovation schedule and cost even more money as a result.

2) Summer

Summertime: June, July and August are some of the hottest months in Britain so there’s no surprise that they’re also some of most popular times for potential homeowners to start looking for builders with whom they want to do business with.  Many will choose to renovate their homes or offices during these sweltering months. Due to the popularity of this time it can be incredibly difficult to arrange for work to be done on your home during these times – it’s the summer holidays, you have a little more free time and the kids are off school. It may sound like the perfect opportunity however, it can be a bumpy ride and sometimes more expensive during peak season.

3) Autumn

During autumn (especially October), professionals will sadly still be busy; however, they’ll generally be more accommodating since they don’t have as many clients or projects at once. Don’t leave it too late though as you’ll need to be wary of the impending boom in clients as it approaches Christmas. Christmas is that one time of year that everyone goes mad for and making their home as best it can be before the guests arrive is no different.

4) Winter

Some homeowners will wait until winter to begin a renovation so they can stay at home while it’s being done. This is an appealing idea, but depending on how your schedule shapes up, it may not be optimal. Wintertime renovations are often more disruptive to your daily life and can take longer because contractors have fewer hours of workable daylight in which to finish a project. If you do plan to renovate in winter, keep a few things in mind:

1) Make sure you have reliable means of heating and cooling your home. If not, hire professionals who can provide temporary heating and cooling solutions if necessary.

2) Be prepared for cold weather by maintaining adequate stocks of food, and not buying too much – especially if you need to store these in the fridge.

3) Hire contractors who understand that winter weather conditions create additional challenges for them and their crew; don’t let them cut corners just because they can!

4) Prepare yourself—and everyone else living in your home—for their increased disruptions to day-to-day life by making plans ahead of time. That way you won’t feel like everything is happening at once.

If none of these suggestions sound good, another possibility would be waiting until spring or autumn to start your renovation. Generally, we think autumn or spring is your best bet when it comes to renovations as its not too cold or too hot and generally there are less holidays to be mindful of – minus Easter that is.
